Videoconference with the German Federal Chancellor

Paris, 19 August 2010 – Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel visited the European Energy Exchange AG (EEX) today. Together with a delegation comprising Federal Environment Minister Norbert Röttgen, Prime Minister of the Free State of Saxony Stanislaw Tillich and Mayor of the City of Leipzig Burkhard Jung she got acquainted with the exchange on site.

Part of the programme of the Federal Chancellor’s visit was a conversation with Jean-François Conil-Lacoste, Chief Executive Officer of EPEX Spot SE, in Paris via a permanent video-conference in the EPEX Spot Market Supervision. EPEX Spot operates the Power Spot Markets for Germany, France, Austria and Switzerland.

“We are extremely honoured that Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed the wish to inform herself about the Franco-German cooperation on the European power exchange market”, Jean-François Conil-Lacoste of EPEX Spot commented. “The visit of the Federal Chancellor and the conversation with EPEX Spot in Paris are a strong signal of recognizing the role of the power exchanges in the ongoing European integration process.”

EPEX Spot SE is a Paris-based company under European law (Societas Europaea) with a branch in Leipzig. EEX AG and Powernext SA each hold 50 percent in the joint company, in which they have integrated their entire spot power trading activities.
