Amsterdam / Bern / Brussels / Leipzig / London / Paris / Vienna, 04 March 2019. In February 2019, a total volume of 46.1 TWh was traded on EPEX SPOT’s Day-Ahead and Intraday power markets (February 2018: 42.8 TWh). This represents a year-on-year growth of 7.6%.
Day-Ahead markets
In February 2019, power trading on the Day-Ahead markets on EPEX SPOT accounted for 39,763,736 MWh (February 2018: 36,627,906 MWh) and thus continues its growth path by a rate of 8.6%.
Prices in Central Western Europe, connected within the Multiregional Coupling, converged 44% of the time (February 2018: 30%).
Intraday markets
On the EPEX SPOT Intraday markets, a total volume of 6,340,680 MWh was traded in February 2019 (February 2018: 6,217,603 MWh). On the German Intraday market, the 15 minute auction grew by 6.2%, 15 minute continuous trading by 5.0%. Further significant growth rates were reached on the Belgian, British and Dutch continuous Intraday markets, with 14.5%, 18.2% and 15.3% respectively.
In February, cross-border trades matched between EPEX SPOT members represented 13,4% of the total continuous intraday volume. 15 minute contracts represented 12.6% of the volume traded on the German, Austrian, Swiss, Dutch and Belgian continuous Intraday markets.
