Paris / Wellington, 22 August 2025. The European Power Exchange EPEX SPOT is pleased to announce the successful go-live of Localflex, its local flexibility market platform, in New Zealand, in collaboration with Our Energy Limited, marking the platform’s first deployment outside of Europe.
Localflex platform is designed to enable the procurement of flexibility services from distributed energy resources (DERs) at the local distribution grid level. These include batteries, solar installations, electric vehicles, and demand-side response assets. Through Localflex, grid operators can manage congestion, support renewable integration, and enhance grid resilience, while opening new value streams for local energy users.
The New Zealand implementation will start supporting two Electricity Distribution Businesses (EDBs) Powerco and Unison, and their FSPs, in trialing local flexibility procurement in real-time. The platform allows for automated tendering and activation of flexibility, aligned with the specific needs of the local distribution system.
This international partnership highlights the importance of cooperation between technology providers, market operators, and grid stakeholders in building a smarter, more flexible, and decarbonised energy system.
