1. Become a Balance Responsible Party

Sign a BRP Agreement with the corresponding Transmission System Operator (TSO) of the markets that you are willing to trade in.  

2. REMIT compliance

To trade EU spot power markets at EPEX, you need to be registered with your national regulator (NRA) to request an ACER Code, and you need to apply for a European Community VAT ID.

3. Clearing account with ECC & membership options

To trade at EPEX SPOT, you need a dedicated clearing account with ECC, our partner EEX-Group Clearing House, for all power markets. You can chose one of the following membership types.

• Non-Clearing Member (NCM)
• Direct Clearing Participant (DCP)
• Passport/Group Membership©

Contact us, and our Sales team will be able to support you in determining the most suitable offer for you. As part of EEX Group, we have the possibility to meet your broad or more specific range of needs. Note that the EPEX SPOT membership is open to companies only ; individuals cannot join.

 4. Know Your Customer (KYC) process, technical setup & trader's exam

Once your clearing status is set, the Know Your Customer (KYC) process follows, ensuring a safe trading environment for all members. The technical setup with tailored options available finalises the steps. All your registered traders need to pass the EPEX SPOT Trader Exam : a dedicated e-Learning module is available on our Webshop.
