About EPEX Spot

EPEX Spot is operated by EPEX Spot SE which is a European company (a Societas Europae or SE). EPEX Spot SE is incorporated in France but the rules that are applicable to it are defined at European level. The foundation of a Societas Europaea (SE) allows companies incorporated in different member states to merge or form a holding company or joint subsidiary, while avoiding the legal and practical constraints arising from the existence of different legal systems.


EPEX Spot SE equity capital is equally divided between EEX Power Spot and Powernext SA. 

Management

EPEX Spot SE is structured in accordance with the “one-tier” board system. The responsibility for the general management of the company is borne by an individual appointed by the Board of Directors carrying the title of Chief Executive Officer (“Directeur Général”). The CEO reports to the Board of Directors (“Conseil d’administration”) which is chaired by a Chairman of the Board of Directors (“Président du Conseil d’Administration”). Shareholders meet at General Meetings (“Assemblées générales”).

The Board of Directors consists of four members: Dr. Hans-Bernd Menzel, CEO of EEX, was appointed Chairman. Jean-François Conil-Lacoste, CEO of Powernext, was appointed Chief Executive Officer. Further members of the Board of Directors are Iris Weidinger, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of  EEX and Thierry Morello, Chief Operating Officer of EPEX Spot.

The management of EPEX Spot SE is in charge of operating EPEX Spot exchange. Two independent bodies have also been put in place in order to ensure state of the art governance rules. The Exchange Council ensures the appropriateness of the Market Rules and the Market Surveillance Office is responsible for monitoring the market.

EPEX Spot Exchange Council

The Exchange Council is a body representing Exchange Members in EPEX Spot governance regarding decisions that are keys to the market. The Exchange Council is neither responsible or in charge of commercial or economic decisions nor of controlling EPEX Spot SE Board of Directors.

  • Mr. Joachim Vanzetta, Amprion
  • Mr. Lars Wlecke, E.ON Energy Trading
  • Mr. Ulrich Woesler, Electrabel (Deputy Chairman)

In addition, Mr. Vincent van Lith, BHF-BANK, will represent the Clearing Members and Mr. Jan Keppler, Paris-Dauphine University, the academic community.
